More Early Spring Stuff!

Well, I did it again.last night as I was walking back from the barn, feeding Nellie and the ducks, I reached into my pocket and noticed that I had my large hunting knife on me. I was also walking past the cherry tree at the same time. I decided to grab some tea buds from the cherry tree -- the Bing cherry tree -- to the Stella cherry tree that we purchased last summer. As usual, one thing led to another. I decided to grab some of the Bing cherry tree buds onto some of the wild cherry tree stock we have growing in the fence row to the west of the house. While I was at it, I also decided to graft some of the mulberries from the fruited mulberry at the front of the house to the wild mulberry tree we have growing in the fields of the northwest of the house.

In my excitement I did not think about the timing of this grafting.apparently this should occur later on in the season when the tree growth is well underway. Ah well live and learn.I also saw another video that I am not supposed to graft apple tree stock until the stock is leafed at in the Sinai and should be kept in a cool damp place so that is not quite producing yet. I guess today I will collect some of the scions that had gathered from Betsy's place and put them in storage.

I'm also going to take some more cuttings from the Saskatoon bushes that I have at the front that I purchased a few years ago. They're not going terribly well as I think they are shaded by the spruce tree in the maple tree. With the cuttings I am going to plant them in more sunny locations.

Earlier in the day I had transplanted the blueberry bush my mom had purchased for me last fall, and placed it to the north east of the house where the Spruce tree grows. This morning Thursday, March 15 I decided to move the other two blueberry bushes that had left as well.

Weather is up and down - much cooler today but still sunny - calling for temperatures of 18 degrees on Saturday.  Yesterday was gorgeous - 17 degrees.
