Easter Sunday

One barrel of oil contains 25,000 man-hours of work. That is unbelievable. I thought of this because I was working in my garden and I thought about how much oil is contained in a tank of gasoline for my Rototiller. What does this mean for the future? I heard Ian Tyson on CBC this morning talking about how the West is changed for Cowboys. He casually mentioned peak oil.is this slipping into the mainstream consciousness? He mentioned to the interviewer that there will be no oil left for his grandchildren. But what he was really concerned about was water and he made the point that they are not making any more water. He did not know where the factory was for water. There are so many things that are going on that I see as connected. We've got to make some choices for sustainability in the future.

I planted some blueberry bushes yesterday Jersey, blue Ray, and Bluebell. I hope wasn't too early. Temperatures were about 20° and sunny in the afternoon yesterday. It was a gorgeous day. I covered the blueberries up with leaves from my mulch.I also planted a Blackberry bush.to put it over near the raspberry canes have planted last year. I think it would be okay, but I covered it up with leaves anyways.

I checked the bees this morning. They were still there. They're coming and going around the small entrance to the old new box. There was one be fanning at the entrance, I hope it's not too warm. I'm hoping she's just fanning the pheromones from the Queen.there was another cluster that was on the compost heap they tried to get together on top of your honeycomb that I put there to get cleaned out, but by this morning they were all dead as it was 0° when I got up at six. It does give me a little sadness every time I see dead bees, but some of the older beekeepers I've talked to have mentioned that we really need to see the individual bees as part of a greater system, or living organism. They are all working to keep the Queen alive and to reproduce for the future. Is that what we are? Just drones, no not drones, they have a great life. I mean are we really just workers working to keep a larger organism alive? I don't think so. I think we are independent, and that we are to make our way in the world as best we can. But a lesson we can take from the hive is that we all need to work together because individually we will perish just like those bees, on the compost heap last night. If we are too small in number we cannot survive.

Enjoy your Easter everyone.

Bee Stoic,

Mark
